Hi, I’m Scott Zagar

I’m an American web developer currently living in San Diego, California.

I’ve been building web applications for over twelve years with my specialities being in PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML and CSS. I work both independently and in collaboration with agencies, start-ups, and independent designers. I recently returned from 5 years of living in Europe and currently work with projects based in 3 continents.

I’m equally strong at building front-end interfaces (HTML5, CSS, JQuery, Ajax) and back-end applications (Object-Oriented PHP, Python, APIs and MySql database design). One thing that sets me apart from most developers is that, while most developers usually depend upon one framework or another (EG: CodeIgnitor or Kohana, both of which I am well-versed in), I’ve built and implemented my own PHP framework. Another thing that separates me from many developers is that I am skilled in graphic design. I’ve studied graphic design and possess a degree in Fine Art. I have designed and programmed entire sites and systems myself. My experience over the past decade collaborating with respected concept artists, who always bring innovative, if occasionally unorthodox ideas to the table, has challenged me to remain flexible and open-minded in my approach.

Right Brain, Meet Left Brain

My freelance work has been concerned mainly with providing comprehensive web solutions (graphic design, content management, and web mastering), while my employee work has been generally more software engineering-oriented. My breadth of professional experience as a team player and as a solo provider communicating with clients spread out around the world spans a wide spectrum of roles. I’m experienced in and comfortable with wearing multiple hats in various situations and going the extra mile to meet the requirements of discerning clientele.
